I have been counseling in the mental health field for 37 years. I utilize my training as a registered art therapist to put creativity (both my own, and my client's) to work in problem solving and gaining different perspectives on the unique difficulties he or she may be dealing with . Depression, anxiety, feeling unloved or unappreciated, feelings of anger, resentment, guilt, sorrow..,,,poor coping skills as a result of unacknowledged trauma…all these things and many more can be healed. I strive for my clients to gain hope and optimism during the first session. My approach is warm and humanistic; I use humor and compassion freely, and have come to believe that both of these qualities are essential for personal growth, healing and resilience. I am influenced by Jungian theory, as well as Native American spirituality. Both of these life outlooks consider balance, respect of differences, and gratitude as important to a happy life. In addition, neither of these traditions shy away from facing the darker sides of our personalities, recognizing that denial only keeps a person stuck, ……..while allowing the light of awareness to illuminate our dark sides can bring the reward of greater self-knowledge, personal growth and authentic living.
I may ask you to have markers and paper nearby at times, to help symbolize a problem or relationship, express feelings, or create a 'map' of a situation or problem. Please embrace this idea with an open mind, as no talent whatsoever is required to make marks on paper. I look forward to assisting you on your path of loving yourself and others more, releasing pain, seeing more reasons for laughter and gratitude, and healing old wounds whose time has come to be healed.

Valerie is such a kind and compassionate person who listens well and offers amazing perspectives on why and how things have happened in my life, I have been blessed to have been connected with Valerie who helped me put my past to bed once and for all.
I feel stronger and my past no longer haunts me and that is a fabulous feeling. I would highly recommend Valerie to anyone who is dealing with issues they can't deal with alone.
Thank you so much Valerie!!!

Valerie is very kind. She understood and validated my emotions so that I felt seen and less alone. I was really struggling when I started working with her and she helped me see things from a different perspective in a matter of one session, which got me out of my funk. I am eternally grateful to her for giving me a new lens to look through and other tools to support my mental health.

I was so excited when I found Valerie Bryan on Betterhelp, as she has the knowledge and training in the types of therapy I am most comfortable with, and then some. I feel that I can talk to her about things that matter the most to me, but that are not easily understood. In only two sessions so far, she has already helped me break through some mental limitations I have had by encouraging me to try things that I feared doing. She is professional yet down to earth and very personable. As I told her, "when the student is ready, the teacher appears." She is exactly what I need at this moment in my life. Thank you Valerie for appearing in my life! And to think, you live so close to me, also!
