Hello! My name is Carri Wilson. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. I have 24 years of counseling experience working in varying areas of the mental health field. I started my experience working with mainly women’s issues including domestic abuse and self-esteem issues. I especially enjoyed working with women of all ages dealing with relationship issues and conflict of role expectations in the family. This has recently evolved into counseling a generation of women that are now caring for their elderly parents and dealing with the challenges of Dementia and Alzheimer’s while trying to balance a personal life. Only just this year these issues became a personal challenge for me. Now more than ever I believe counseling support is imperative for the caregivers experiencing such stress. I worked for almost 20 years in the field of education counseling children and parents alike on issues such as emotional disturbances, autism, ADHD, abandonment, effects of divorce, academic issues, behavior issues, cultural differences, drug abuse and special education concerns. Acting as an administrator for IEP’s and 504 accommodations allowed me the opportunity to advise parents regarding behavioral techniques and modifications needed to address a variety of emotional, physical and social needs of children. I have a soft spot in my heart for kids and truly believe parents should be supported as much as possible in the rearing of their offspring. With the transit nature of our society young parents often do not have the support available and need an encouraging professional to give guidance and direction. Because of my experience, I am a great resource in the face of these types of challenges. For the last 15 years I have conducted family evaluations for families going through contentious custody issues, adoptions and guardianships. This experience in forensic counseling afforded me the opportunity to delve into the lives of families experiencing a myriad of problems. Working with the family courts and family agencies in the community gave me a wide variety of perspectives and options for problem solving. I use a variety of techniques, using what I feel will works best with clients but usually lean toward a cognitive behavioral approach and person-centered style. That means I will be working with your thoughts, feelings and behaviors while making your best welfare my priority. It is important to me to form a genuine bond of trust with each client to ensure an honest relationship. My style of counseling will be encouraging, warm and supportive. I truly believe that I can help with setting goals, changing behaviors, and using tools to make better decisions for you. I like to empower my clients to find ways to help themselves. If you need a sincere person to work with, I am happy to help!

Hello! I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 12 years of experience working with all ages of adults in a clinical setting. I have a Master of Social Work from the University of Texas- Arlington from 2011, and obtained my clinical license in 2015. My undergraduate degree is a BS in Nursing from the University of Texas- Austin which was my first career. Those nursing experiences have been beneficial to help practice in a more holistic way, appreciating how the body and mind interact together. My clinical experience is primarily helping people with depression and anxiety, along with trauma, shame, grief and loss and problems with self-esteem. I also work with clients to learn how to manage stressors and conflict in healthy ways. Oftentimes, the transitions and changes life brings to us can lead to dissatisfaction or feeling stuck. It's at these times we can learn new ways of thinking and coping skills that can allow personal growth that leaves us stronger than we were before. It can be helpful to have an objective and non judgemental therapist alongside you to validate and understand your experiences and perceptions. I believe each person has a unique story to share and we are all richer for hearing it. I utilize cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, solution focused and other therapies in working with clients, to create a dynamic partnership together. As a social worker, my focus is on your own unique strengths, with the goal of empowering you to overcome your obstacles. My counseling style is focused, yet warm and accepting. I look forward to working with you towards a more satisfying and meaningful life.

As a teenager, I struggled academically and socially at school to fit in with my peers. I had a hard time with my studies. Not knowing that I have dyslexia caused me much grief. My mom and dad chalked my bad grades and attitude up to just being a teenager, but it was more than that. I was struggling with anxiety and self doubt. This lead me into abusive relationships and a eating disorder. After I had worked through my issues, I decided I wanted to help people find their purpose in life. I have worked for the past 8 years as a professional counselor for children and adults. The children I work with everyday, are not only at risk of not succeeding in school, but also in danger of a lifetime of struggling with mental health issues. I have worked with children and teenagers in and out of the Juvenile systems as well as alternative schools. I have also worked with people that have struggled with anxiety and confusion over their sexual orientation. They struggle with how or if or when to tell the world and their friends and family about their life style. My job is to help you find yourself, and to speak for yourself in a more positive and productive way. Having worked as a grief counselor for Hospice has also allowed me to understand grief and loss. I would love to help you through your journey. My theory of counseling follows a client center approach and I believe cognitive behavior therapy is the most effective way to meet your needs. If you need an open-minded, understanding counselor, please feel free to contact me to be that person. I look forward to hearing from you. My favorite quote that I live by is "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." – Mark Twain.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas and have been in the field for 10+ years. I have never failed to be fascinated with people, with their stories, and with their ability to overcome their circumstances and find the peace they desire. I was an art teacher in high school for many years. That opportunity presented me with experience in learning about the heart of a young person. I worked in several churches as a mentor and learned the need for skills people lacked in order to overcome their past and move forward into a healthy life. As a counselor, I saw the amazing struggles that people are grappling with as they tried to tackle each day. I believe that a counselor can be the helper who will walk along side of a person on their journey to healing. I completed my Masters in counseling at the Houston Graduate School of Theology, then went on to Texas A&M Corpus Christi to complete a Ph.D. I have also extended my studies to include many techniques for working with trauma/PTSD, personality disorders, grief, disassociation, depression, OCD, transition issues, and anxiety. I have been involved with many survivors of childhood abuse, those struggling with life issues in their relationships, their workplace, and in society in general. Fear, anger, and frustration are often crippling to a healthy, productive life. I like to work with people in a person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and in dialectic behavioral therapy. These therapies all offer a gentle and caring approach. They will allow you to be open in a safe environment and the ability to explore what will best work for you, the individual. I consider the people I’ve talked with and walked with in this journey of life to be among the strongest people on earth. They are willing to step out of their problems and seek a better, healthier life. It’s hard work, but it is worth it.

As a licensed professional counselor, I am licensed in the State of Texas with five years of professional work experience. I hold a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling, and I am currently in the process of completing my doctorate in counselor education and supervision. I also hold a Master's of Divinity and serve as the senior minister to a non-denominational church with an openness to interfaith and interspirituality. I have over 25 years of ministerial experience, offering spiritual direction and pastoral counseling in various locations around the world. I am quite comfortable navigating the secular as well as the spiritual at the request and needs of my clients. I primarily work with everyday issues such as stress and anxiety, relationship issues, motivation, self-esteem, and confidence/coping with life changes. However, I have also experience working with individuals with neurological differences, including autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, and many other mental health disorders. I primarily work from an existential-humanistic perspective, which focuses on the individual's meaning-making in life as well as the potential they strive toward while overcoming the challenges that may present themselves. I also believe that you are the expert of your story and have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Moreover, I integrate with narrative theory, which looks at your life's story and see how you relate to the challenges that may concern you at present. Additionally, I often implement feminist theories, which view our challenges through the perspective of oppression and privilege depending on the many cultural variables (e.g., race, gender, LGBTQIA+, etc.) that make up the beautiful being we are. Finally, I am learning to include the concepts and ideas of internal family systems (IFS) in my counseling practice as a way to combine many of my approaches in a respectful and curious way. However, regardless of my foundational and integrated approaches, I carefully apply modalities that have shown to be effective when working with specific concerns (e.g., cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, etc.). Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage, and I honor your commitment to doing so. Let us get to know each other and see whether we are a good fit. My role is not that of an advisor, telling you what to do, but that of a companion who happens to walk with you, pointing out what may be relevant, as you explore your own path back to your natural state wellbeing.

Each type of therapy can offer various benefits and address or treat different disorders. If you're still unsure or are new to counseling in Thompsons, feel free to contact the provider via email to find out which methods they practice.

Find a therapist under any of these distinctions and know that the sessions they offer can provide a safe place to heal.

Mental health professionals working through their own in- person therapy practice in Thompsons or online may assist clients in improving healthy relationships, communication skills, working through life transitions, managing a mood disorder, improving coping skills, or change in negative thinking patterns. Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Thompsons area can be found below:

How does the cost of in-person counseling compare to the cost of BetterHelp with a licensed Thompsons therapist?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Thompsons due to a higher cost of living. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300
  • Therapy with a psychologist: $100

While many psychologists in Thompsons may not take health insurance, some in the state of Texas may work on a sliding scale, meaning they'll factor in your income and charge what you can afford per session. With BetterHelp or clinicians throughout the state of Texas you can expect significantly more affordable options, with sessions ranging from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks).

How is a licensed therapist on this online therapy platform verified?

Therapists in Thompsons, Texas working on BetterHelp are licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited as a doctor of psychology (PhD / PsyD), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW / LICSW), or licensed professional counselors (LPC). All of these psychology clinicians have a Masters Degree or a Doctorate Degree in their field of psychology sciences, and follow the APA Code of Ethics. They have been qualified and certified by their state's professional board after successfully completing the necessary education, exams, training and practice with a patient, and extensive experience in a healthcare clinic or treatment centers, in order to become a mental health provider. While their lived experience, expertise, careers, and background vary, they all possess at least 3 years and 1,000 hours of hands-on experience with adult and sometimes teen patients, and have the necessary therapist credentials to provide a safe space for long lasting emotional healing in therapy.

Please note BetterHelp does not offer or provide care from psychiatrists to prescribe a drug as treatment, or perform psychological assessments.

How does working with a counselor in BetterHelp online therapy sessions work?

BetterHelp clinicians treat clients online across the United States (individuals and couples) through life transitions, inner child exploration, long term depression or anxiety, and more. An online mental health professional, including the therapists in Thompsons above, can work with young adults, children, adolescents, and adults virtually as an accredited licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT). You do not have to commute to a an office as a psychotherapy client.

You may also be struggling with relationship problems that could be addressed in couples therapy or with a sex therapist. In that case, you may choose to work with one of BetterHelp's experienced cognitive-behavioral therapists or licensed marriage family therapists (LMFT) who work with clients in relationships. You can also try a Thompsons therapy provider through BetterHelp's sister platform, ReGain, which is dedicated to couples and spouses worldwide.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

A psychologist in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Thompsons therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words.

With a lot of people in TX, providers may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 77469 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Thompsons counselor?

Before seeing your therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice. A Thompsons licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles.

Is mental health care and therapy worth it?

Therapy is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health professional has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Thompsons, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Thompsons has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
