My name is James Hunter MS, LPC, LCDC. I am 52 years old and I have over 23 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. I have worked in various levels of care from intensive inpatient, supported residential treatment programs, and outpatient treating a wide range of mental health symptoms and behaviors. I Specialize in Cognitive & Behavioral Psychotherapies, Reality Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Existential approaches, Substance Use Disorders/Addiction counseling, and other modalities modified to your needs. My graduate school work was in both clinical psychology and counseling. I have worked with and treated diverse populations and many people representing many cultures. I have experience working with and treating Mood Disorders such as Depression & Anxiety type disorders with evidenced based treatment modalities. I also have experience treating and addressing Behavioral Problems and Maladaptive Behaviors that arise due to unhealthy coping mechanism and teaching clients healthier replacement behaviors and coping mechanisms.
My approach can be very genuine, direct, and honest and while I may not always tell you "what you want to hear," I will provide feedback based on what is best to hear to help improve your insight into your problems. My counseling/therapy style may not be for everyone. If you are ready to make changes and are seeking honesty, logic, and a solution focused approach then I may be a good fit for you. A little about my personal life is that I practice a lifestyle of physical fitness as part of my overall wellness and self-care. I believe in a total wellness approach to treating mental health disorders and life issues that considers the larger picture of health: Mental, Emotional, Physical, Social, Spiritual, Environmental, & Occupational or sense of purpose. I understand that adapting a new lifestyle & healthier habits can present challenges and often at times may seem difficult. My goal is to assist you with improving your mental health, well-being, overall fitness as a person, and with developing healthy patterns of thinking and healthier behaviors/coping mechanisms while helping you gain insight into your own personal psychology and development. I am ready to assist you with: Adjustment to life issues, Anxiety, Depression, Self-esteem, feeling overwhelmed by life, Stress, toxic relationships, and more. IMPORTANT: "Please Check my Schedule for days & hours of availability first to make sure that my days and times available will meet your needs." Depending on what day of the week you get linked with me you may possibly have your 1st live session the following week if the schedule for that current week has been booked up already for the present week you are subscribing to me, however the openings going forward are from week to week but do fill up typically be the end of the week for the following week. NOTE: Live Counseling Sessions are capped at 30 to 45 minutes depending on needs at this time in order to be able to accommodate everyone on my caseload. MY SCHEDULE: My days and hours of availability may vary from month to month. Please look at my schedule and make sure that if you want to work with me that you are able to be available during my available days and hours you see listed. If you have any questions about my schedule feel free to ask me. Thank you. If it is available on my schedule for that week you may book the session. Please present on time for scheduled appointments at the time scheduled. If you do not present within 15 minutes of the time that the session is supposed to start, I will move on to other duties that I have during my work day and you will need to reschedule. Always feel free to ask me any questions about my schedule.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you are a new member matching with me and you can't make yourself available for a "live session" by at least within the first 2 weeks from the time you matched with me, I may ask you to match with another therapist as when members are assigned to me but give no responses or do not prioritize a time to be available this is unproductive to planning my week to week schedule. I do require a reasonable amount of consistency and frequency with communication and live sessions. If this reasonable expecation can't be met, I will ask you to match with another therapist as Therapy needs to be made a "Priority" otherwise this is not an efficient use of time.

I cannot recommend James Hunter enough. His advice and insights were FUNDAMENTAL for me to set myself free from a very toxic 7 years relationship, and undo the brainwashing that person did to me. Friends&family are not enough sometimes: you need someone who helps you see reality for what it is, without sugarcoating it, and teaches you how to reprogram you mind so that you can start making healthy decisions for yourself. He was also very reassuring and helped me cope with anxiety too. I am so grateful I found him, if it wasn't for him I'd still be wasting my time and live a miserable life.
