***Only accepting autistic and ADHD clients (and those who suspect they might be)*** As a life-long Texan, I understand distance! That’s one of the reasons I’ve chosen to provide online-only counseling services. I’ve been licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #17569) since 2002, after receiving my Masters Degree in Education/Community Counseling from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. I’m currently off the Caprock in Texas, and my roots lie in areas of the state that often lack quality counseling services. It is my goal (and passion) to serve neurodivergent Texans, who, for whatever reason – be it convenience, pricing or distance – have chosen to give online counseling a try. I have worked with a wide and inclusive range of clients on issues such as trauma, depression, substance use, stress and anxiety, gender and sexual identity, and many others. Understanding how these conditions impact the neurodivergent person can help that person achieve even more healing. My approach is client-centered, which means that I believe that the therapeutic relationship between counselor and client is the most important aspect of therapy. I am neurodivergent myself and this allows for a unique therapeutic rapport with neurodivergent clients who have not felt well-understood in the past. Beyond that, my tools are cognitive behavioral in nature, with a heavy emphasis on mindfulness skills. Both are evidence-based approaches for autistic and ADHD clients. In 2021, I became a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (CASDCS) after learning about the unique ways in which females and non-binary folks experience being autistic. While I am not an expert and do not “specialize in autism,” I’ve since embraced the neurodiversity movement and enjoy teaching neurodivergent clients (autism, ADHD, etc.) about this concept because of the healing that it can bring. In 2022, I expanded this education to include a specific certification as an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) to add as many tools as possible for improving executive function and understanding motivation in both Autism and ADHD.

I am bilingual, multi-culturally competent, trauma-informed, and my experience is diverse. My greatest clinical strength is customization – I provide each client with an individualized therapeutic package, centered around your specific needs. My theoretical orientation is based in Positive Psychology using a strengths-based, person-centered approach with a focus on achieving resilience. I believe passionately in the power of the individual to change. My background includes private practice, inpatient and outpatient hospitalizations, residential treatment centers, and community-based counseling. Real change happens when behaviors change. You and I will know you are making progress as you begin to feel better and make meaningful behavioral adjustments. As a cognitive-behavioral therapist, I teach clients about the link between thoughts, emotions, and behavior. Using this link, I will then teach you how to “hack” the system in reverse – that is; changes in behavior lead to changes in emotions and thoughts. Therapy is a process rather than a destination. So, the duration of time in therapy varies by individual, as do the results. Telehealth offers client's convenience, eliminates travel time, and increases access to therapy.

Hello, my name is Thomas Hall and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Colorado and New Mexico. I have approximately 20 years of experience in mental health related work. I started off working with teens in the wilderness therapy field in the beautiful southwest United States. I have since worked in community mental health with youth, families and adults and more recently veterans. I also served youth from age 5-19 in the public education setting as a special education social worker. I have enjoyed working with various backgrounds and ethnicities, and always try to take cultural differences into account in my work. I believe in helping my clients find their own way with my guidance and support. I help my clients change their stress producing thoughts and find the direction they want to head in their relationships, careers, and goals whatever those may be, while teaching strategies to handle emotions and behaviors. Having a positive relationship with my clients is very important and I work on this from the beginning. I definitely come from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy philosophy and subgroups related to this. I grew up in Ohio and attended Miami University of Ohio for my Bachelors Degree in psychology and after working for a period of time in the mental health field I finished my Masters in Social Work at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. I completed the necessary steps and obtained my clinical license in New Mexico and Virginia.

I have worked with populations that have substance problems and who have been incarcerated, on probation, or parole. Very familiar with the military and aerospace industries. Although, I am extremely familiar with Christianity, secular counseling is important. Solution Focused Brief Therapy is my main interest because I feel the client knows him or herself better than any counselor. In this light, I become a helper rather than a therapist. I have used Written Exposure Therapy for Complex PTSD.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

A psychologist in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. A Bunker Hill Village therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words.

With a lot of people in TX, providers may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 77024 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Bunker Hill Village counselor?

Before seeing your therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice. A Bunker Hill Village licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles.

Is mental health care and therapy worth it?

Therapy is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health professional has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Bunker Hill Village, Texas can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Bunker Hill Village has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
