I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas with over 15 years of experience working as a therapist and over 25 years of experience working with children and families recovering from trauma, grief and loss. I have worked with clients suffering with a wide range of diagnoses including mood disorder, depression, bi-polar, anxiety, panic, trauma, PTSD, dissociative disorders, psychosis, adjustment disorders and gender dysphoria.
My therapy style is collaborative and client-centered. I believe that the best therapeutic work is accomplished when clients are provided opportunity to feel safe, respected and able to have a strong connection with their provider. I strive to create a working relationship within which clients feel safe and at ease. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, trauma-focused, emotional-regulation training and the practice of Mindfulness. In the last year, I have had the privilege of adding a First Responder-specific trauma certification to address the complexities of primary, secondary and compound trauma in First Responder fields. I am honored to work with First Responders and Veterans and hopeful that my diligence to stay abreast of the latest research and treatment in trauma will benefit these groups as well as all trauma-impacted lives. Additionally, I have been able to increase my trauma-focused enrichment with the pursuit of certifications in Body-Work treatments for trauma and stress-impacted presentations. I will work with your unique strengths and needs to create a treatment plan specific to you.
It is a brave step to seek help for symptoms that are often misunderstood and dismissed in a busy and distracted world. I am ready to meet you right where you are and help you create a great plan of healing and hope.

Lori is so helpful, professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. She was able to provide me guidance on the topics I needed more direction with and equipped me with tools to help re-gear my mindset. It empowered me to embark onto the next chapter in life I was stepping into and I am so grateful for that. I feel like she is available by any mode of communication, which is great due to my busy work schedule. I highly recommend Lori to provide her expertise for anyone else needing guidance!

Lori Has been my therapist for almost 2 years now. When I first met Lori, I was not in a good mental space at all and did not know how I would be able to move forward with my life, in so many aspects. I was struggling in coping with a terrible traumatic experience that not only affected me in the present but also brought back some horrible childhood memories and brought the trust issues I thought I was able to conquer in the past, back to life.
I initially met with Lori once a week but she was available for me anytime I needed her. She checked on me and gave me exercises and homework to help me through the toughest times. She listened intently and took important notes and studied me and my situation.
She always comes prepared with research and information on how to help me more. I sincerely appreciate this. She does more than just lets me talk, she is a problem solver. I truly appreciate someone who can help me achieve my goals and progress forward in my mental well-being. She not only offers me encouragement but she offers sound, research backed advice.
I am not quite sure where I would be at this moment in my life if I had not met Lori. I am so thankful to have her consistency, care, kindness, concern and more. I appreciate so much all the tools she has given me to progress forward in life. She has truly made a difference and positive impact in my life.

Lori St Ama knows what she is talking about; if she can't speak in depth immediately, she researches whatever you need, and she makes you feel very comfortable, even when things are really going wrong in your life. She has been exceptionally helpful in unpacking baggage in my life that I hadn't realized I was still carrying, and helping me retire it. And this is after successfully addressing my primary concerns.

I’ve enjoyed my time in therapy with Lori St Ama, she’s helped me tackle tough issues and make breakthroughs without feeling like she’s just telling me what I want to hear. She listens, and offers advice and suggestions but also letting you talk thru it. I’ve never been so pleased with counseling, and have really felt the positive benefits I’ve been getting from counseling

Lori has been one of the most caring, and insightful persons I have ever met. Offering more than just wisdom, but allowing to face the things I buried years ago. I am very very thankful for her.
For the longest time I feared Therapy as a whole, but Lori has made it the best experience I could ever hope for, and it is exactly what I need.

Lori has been amazing for me. She really makes me feel like I'm a priority during sessions and like we are working together towards improvement, rather than feeling like I'm being given homework or like she's trying to give me a blanket solution and get rid of me. Explaining my LGBTQ+ and poly stuff was quick and easy and she made me feel instantly accepted. She gives me solutions or tricks that are personalized to me and listens when I tell her what I want to focus on in my sessions. It all feels very positive and productive.

I've gotten more out of 1 video session with Lori than I ever have with 4 other traditional counselors in the past. Lori treats me like an individual, not a case number. For the first time ever I'm able to talk about my problems and collaborate- working *together* toward understanding my feelings and thought patterns. As opposed to focusing on things I don't want to focus on. I love being able to write her any time. Most of the time it's really just having someone I can text or "talk" to in the moment that's giving me clarity and helps me put my thoughts into concrete words.

Lori has been a great help. I really appreciate her being so open minded especially with Polyamory and LGBTQ+ topics. I feel like I can open up to her naturally. I also really appreciate her seeing the good parts of myself. Her positive affirmations really make my day at the end of the session no matter what the struggles I'm facing are. I highly recommend her.
